Monica Walsh accepted a teaching job in Malta at St. Edward's College in 1933, and spent the war years on the besieged island. She founded the Legion of Mary and set up the first Guides Movement, in all spending 24 years on the island.

Later in life, during the seventies, Miss Walsh went to Spain to serve as tutor to seven-year-old Prince Felipe of Spain, later Prince Felipe of Asturias. In Madrid, she became close to his sisters, Princess Elena and Princess Cristina. She taught the Prince, English and history until he was 13 and arranged for his sisters to stay at a convent school in England.

For her 100th birthday she received a message from the King and Queen of Spain. Queen Sofia telephoned her sister, Madeleine Cyner-Walsh, to offer condolences after Miss Walsh's death, as did Prince Felipe. The Princesses sent telegrams.

After her years serving the Church, Miss Walsh retired to the Little Sisters of the Poor in Headingley. She never married. Her Requiem Mass took place at the Little Sisters of the Poor on March 27, 2009. She was buried at Bowling Cemetery in Bradford.
