He married Reta Lucille Summers November 7, 1942, at Woodville. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where he worked as a clerk for Union Pacific Railroad. He also worked as an independent home roofer.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many different capacities. He enjoyed his grandchildren, camping, and fishing; his loving heart and good nature will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving 3 Children: Daryl [Janet] Bates, Pleasant Grove, UT; Kathy [Lynn] Woodvine, Bothell, WA; and Gayla [Lance] Harpel, Silverdale, WA. Brother: Arlen Duane Bates, Idaho Falls, and 10 Grandchildren.
