John Willis "Buddy" Armstrong, 84, died April 1, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Aug. 27, 1924, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., to Grover Cleveland Armstrong and Bessie Elizabeth Sneed Armstrong. He lived in Memphis before moving to Aberdeen in 1994. He retired as stock expeditor at International Harvester. He was awarded three Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star while serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Aberdeen.

Services were at the Aberdeen First Christian Church with burial in New Hope Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors included his wife of 59 years, Berta Morgan Armstrong of Aberdeen; three daughters, Marian Partridge and Beth Crouch, both of Cordova, Tenn., and Susan Davis (Mike) of Southaven; one son, John Richard Armstrong (Vickey) of Olive Branch; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Helen Morrison of Bay, Ark., and Judy Cole (Jim) of Paragould, Ark.; a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patsy Holderfield.
