Leander (Lee) Bailey, 93, of Matoaka, died Sunday morning in a Bluefield hospital after a long illness.

Born Jan. 14, 1873, at During [sic], he was a son of the late Jonathan and Timandria Godfrey Bailey. He was a former real estate rental dealer and a member of the Giatto-Bailey Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Godfrey Bailey; three sons, Everette of Princeton, Ernest of Parker, Ariz., and Olaf of Sacramento, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Beulah Stephens of Matoaka, Mrs. Hazel France of Baltimore, Md., and Miss Meda Bailey of Bluefield; a sister, Miss Betty S. Bailey of Matoaka; two brothers, John E. of Matoaka and Dr. G. Howard Bailey of Baltimore, Md.; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Giatto-Bailey Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Farmer in charge. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Park Mausoleum.

The body will remain at Memorial Funeral Directory at Princeton where friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday."

Leander lived above Giatto on part of John D. Godfrey's land. He was a farmer and also had drilling machines that he used to drill wells for people in the area. later, he worked for the Thomas Coal Mine on the tipple.
