U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Stanford University, in 1901, from its law department in 1903, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in San Jose, California. He was Mountain View City Attorney, (1904-10) and District Attorney of Santa Clara County, (1907-19). In 1921, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1933. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 74.
