US Congressman. Born in Lower Smithfield, Pennsylvania, he studied theology at the Stroudsburg (Pennsylvania) Academy and was ordained a Methodist minister in 1794. Two years later he moved to New England as a supervisor of Methodist societies in the Connecticut Valley, and in 1809 settled in Newfields, New Hampshire. He was a member of the New Hampshire State Senate from 1817 to 1827, and also officiated as chaplain of the State House of Representatives (1825). Brodhead was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-first and Twenty-second Congresses, serving from 1829 to 1833; he declined to run for a third term and returned to his ministry. He died in Newfields.
