Bertha F. Agee Chapman was the last of 12 children born to John and Mary Elizabeth Thornton Agee. The families came from Missouri, to Gopher Valley, Yamhill Co, Oregon (John came in 1852 and Mary was born in Oregon); then Douglas County, settling in Wilbur. The Thorntons and the Agee families have a well documented genealogy as early pioneers in Oregon.

The siblings names were: Leetia (died young), Otto, Lucretia (Ellison), Theodocia (Leake), Emma M., John D., Zopher, Owen, Ray, Roy and Kathryn (Stephens).

Bertha married Franklin G. Chapman in Multnomah County, OR 26 May 1908. They had one son, Kenneth L. Chapman (1909-1995 ).

The family moved to Washington and lived in Mason CO, WA. They are listed in census records in 1930 as living in McCleary, Grays Harbor, WA.
