Louis was the son of Jacob Blankenhorn, b. Apr. 10, 1807 in Frankenthal-Rhei, Bavaria and d. Sep. 20, 1890 in Poughkeepsie NY. &
Barbara Joest (Yost), b. Oct. 17, 1817 in Wattenheim-Rhein, Bavaria and d. Sep. 26, 1894 in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Jacob and Barbara emigrated from Ulm in Bavaria to the U. S. in the late 1840's.
Jacob & Barbara had nine children.

Louis married Lillian Apr. 26, 1882 in Milwakee, Wisconsin.

Mr. Louis Blankenhorn, the oil expert, who has been prominent in the oil business and supply company's management, has retired from that position though retaining his interests in the association. He has associated himself with the Messrs. H. A. Blodget and Solomon Jewett, bankers of Bakersfield; he will manage and develop their extensive oil and asphalt interests, including the Standard Asphalt company. Mr. Blankenhorn is now erecting a refinery at Bakersfield, including large storage tanks, stills and other appliances for refining the heavy Malta or liquid asphalt, now produced from a number of wells near Bakersfield into a brilliant varnish asphaltum. The yield of these wells is fifty barrels a day, having a gravity of 90, Baume. The same firm is also engaged in developing lighter oils for fuel purposes. These industries have of late been quite a source of trade for local supply houses. Mr. Blankenhorn is an able business man who has no superior in his line of work.

Louis Blankenhorn, a railroad executive, came to Pasadena to live when he retired. His son, David Fergusen Blankenhorn was born there. He became a widely known real estate man. One of his best known deals was the sale of Catalina Island to William Wrigley for $1 million.
