U.S. Congressman. Born in Cherry Valley, Ohio, he attended Allegheny College and was the first football coach on record for college’s program. He graduated from Western Reserve University, in 1897 and moved to Linesville, Pennsylvania, in 1901. There he engaged in the manufacture of silos, the lumber business and agricultural pursuits. He was member of the Linesville and Meadville Boards of Education, (1920-29) and president of the Meadville Chamber of Commerce, (1922-24). In 1933, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third, Seventy-fourth, and Seventy-fifth Congresses, serving until 1939. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he moved to Maryland and operated a large dairy farm until his death at age 74 in Frederick, Maryland.
