Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He was a Sergeant in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Private in Company A, 7th Pennsylvania Reserve Corps, for action on December 13, 1862 at Fredericksburg, Virginia. His citation reads "Capture of flag of 19th Georgia Infantry (C.S.A.), wresting it from the hands of the color bearer."
