US Congressman. He began his political career as a delegate to the Louisiana State constitutional convention in 1921. He was a member of the Louisiana State House of Representatives, (1924-28) and served in the Louisiana State Senate, (1928-30). In 1931, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-second Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1941. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he was called to active duty as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve, serving (1941-43). In September 1943, he was appointed collector of internal revenue for the district of Louisiana, serving until 1946. He was then employed as revenue examiner for department of revenue, State of Louisiana and was head of income tax section.
