John L. Gowen, age 56, died September 9, 1999 at Craig.
He grew up at Ketchikan where he attended Ketchikan High School.
After his marriage he moved to Dallas, Texas where he attended welding school.
He returned to Ketchikan where he worked as
a yard and shipping supervisor at Ketchikan Spruce Mill, then went on to work at the U.S. Forest Service as a forestry technician.
He was nominated a 'Citizen of the Year' by
the Forestry Service.
His family said that he loved Alaska, the mountains, hunting and fishing.
