U.S. Congressman. Born in Fremont, Ohio, he graduated from St. Xavier College, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Fremont, Ohio. He was prosecuting attorney of Sandusky County, (1852-54) and during the Civil War, he served as a Captain regimental quartermaster of Company G, 8th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Union Army. After the war, he was the probate judge of Sandusky County, (1866-69). In 1869, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-first Congress, serving until 1871. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was elected Mayor of Fremont, (1871, 73, 75) and was probate judge of Sandusky County, from 1877, until his death at age 62 in Fremont, Ohio.
