U.S. Congressman. After serving in the US Continental Navy during the Revolution, he was a shipmaster, plus engaged in the East Indian and China, carrying trade. His brother-in-law was Samuel Nicholson, the first Captain of the USS Constitution. In 1819, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixteenth Congress, serving until he resigned in 1820.
