US Congressman. Elected to represent New York's 14th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1875 to 1879. He was defeated in 1878. Also served as Governor of Kansas Territory from 1860 to 1861, Candidate for Justice of Nevada State Supreme Court in 1865, Candidate for New York State Senate in 1871, Member of New York State Assembly from 1872 to 1873, Delegate to Democratic National Convention from New York in 1876, 1880, and 1892, and State Court Judge from 1883 to 1890.
