Major League Baseball Player. He played outfield for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1944 to 1947. After 1 game of the 1947 season, he was traded to the Brooklyn Dodgers. In the 1947 World Series, he robbed Joe DiMaggio of a game-tying home run. He collapsed and died while playing golf at Solvang's Alisal course.
