Author. He is a well-known Argentinean writer, poet, playwright, and journalist of the late 19th century and into the 20th century. In 1873 he published his first volume of poems. In 1876 he premiered his first theatrical play, the dramatic poem "La rosa blanca", which was staged at the Opera theater in Buenos Aires. Eventually, he was recognized as the first Argentine playwright after the 1902 performance of "La Piedra del Escándalo," Among his best works are "La Chacra de Don Lorenzo" and "Parientes Pobres." He was elected to the Argentine Academy, in which he was the president between 1876 and 1878. A small town located in the Buenos Aires Province bears his name in honor. There is a square that also bears his name, in which a bust of the writer stands.
