U.S. Congressman. Graduating from the University of Missouri, then from the Kansas City School of Law in 1913, he was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a member of the Kansas City Council, (1926-30) and judge of the circuit court of Jackson County, (1931-34). In 1935, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth Congress and to the next six succeeding Congresses, serving until 1949. Not running for reelection, he resumed the practice of law and managed private investments.
