Lucretia Sánchez Vialpando age 89, a resident of Albuquerque, previously of Alcalde, NM, peacefully went to her eternal rest on Friday, June 8, 2001, as a result of lung cancer.
Lucretia was born on September 10, 1911 in La Villita, NM to Avelino Sánchez Sr. and Gertrudis Casados Sánchez.
Lucretia was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Vialpando, son, Gregorio O. McKenzie, brothers, Joe G. Sánchez, Avelino Sánchez Jr. and Juan Sánchez and a sister, Mary Irene Sánchez.
Lucretia is survived by her siblings and their spouses. Agneda Palmer and her husband, Robert of Albuquerque, Stella Wheeler and her husband, George, Ramón Sánchez and his wife, Connie, Louise Dora Salazar and José L. Sanchez of Santa Fé, sister-in-law, Bernie Sánchez of Española, nieces and nephews Loyola Salazar, Lorraine Gurule, Mable Willaman, Sandra Sanchez, Pearl and Raquel Wheeler, Alfonso, Chris and Margaret Sánchez, Michael, Andrew and Randy Sánchez and Bernadette Wiegel, Donald Salazar and Anna Mae Gallegos, daughter-in-law, Jean McKenzie, five grandchildren, Mary Ann, Cathy, Greg, Marjean and Coralu McKenzie, 14 great grandchildren, all residing in Utah and Arizona.
Lou's patience, compassion and love for those around her will never be forgotten. Lucretia was a devout Catholic. Lucretia loved being outdoors and working in her garden.
Lucretia loved her roses, hummingbirds, animals, picking piñon, playing bingo, sewing, cooking and taking nature walks.
A viewing and rosary will be held at Albuquerque Bible Church, 320 Montaño NW, Albuquerque, on Tuesday, June 12, 2001 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. It was her wish to be cremated and a memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Annes Catholic Church, 511 Alicia (at Hickox) in Santa Fé, NM on Friday, June 15, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg McKenzie and Michael Sánchez.
