Fuchs umpired an American League game on August 25, 1978 as the third base umpire. In that game, the New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics 7-1. He umpired that game with Al Forman, Jim Dunne, and Richie Lazar. He returned to the American League the next year to umpire two games, both as the third base umpire.

His younger brother, Charlie Thomas Fuchs, was a Major League Baseball player during World War II.
