BANGOR DAILY NEWS - 15 April 1998:
*******************************
Inez G. Saunders, age 67, died in her home in Orland on April 14, 1998, fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Wife of Merle Saunders.
Inez loved her family and especially enjoyed cooking for them and many others.
Her molasses cookies, biscuits, and doughnuts will be remembered by many.
Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery.
*******************************

GOWEN FAMILY MEMOIRS:
**********************
Inez's mother, Augusta, was musically talented and played the organ. It is said that while she was pregnant with Inez, every time music was played Inez would kick with the beat of the music (to the embarrassment of her mother).
However, Inez inherited her mother's musical talent; she played piano for dances, songs, and played guitar with a group called 'Happy Valley Cowboys' which went to many small Maine towns giving people the joy of their music.
After graduating from Bucksport High School
in 1947, Inez worked for three years in a gas station pumping gas, changing oil, and tires, which in those days was not a job that girls usually did.
She met and married Merle, then they built a home on the old homestead land in Orland, only a stone's throw from the home in which Inez was born.
