United States Navy Vice Admiral. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1942. After graduation he attended Submarine School in 1943 and served in the Pacific in World War II. He served more than four years aboard the submarines Hake SS-256, the Diablo SS-479. He attended Deep Sea Divers School in Washington, D.C. in March of 1949 and in August of 1954 was assigned as the Commanding Officer of the Submarine Irex SS 482. Snyder was promoted to Lt. Commander and was made the Executive Officer of the submarine rescue vessel Greenlet ASR-10. He next served at the Fleet Sonar School, in San Diego, California. His next tour of duty was aboard the submarine Catfish SS-339 as Executive Officer. In February of 1968 he became the Commanding Officer of the Heavy Cruiser Newport News in ceremonies at the DMZ in Vietnam. Snyder returned to Washington D.C. as the Commander in charge of Legislative Affairs. On July 1, 1970 he was promoted to Admiral and his last Command was as Commander of the United States Taiwan Defense Command from August of 1974 to August of 1977. He retired in 1977 as a Vice Admiral.
