Val moved in two doors down from me in second grade. We grew up together. She graduated from San Leandro High School in 1976. She became a hairdresser and did my hair for many years, including on the day of my wedding.
She first married her high school sweetheart, Bill Hulse, and they had a son. After they divorced, she remarried and had a daughter. After a second divorce, she met and married the love of her life, Dan Aldrete. They were married for 23 years.
Valerie was always very much into health and fitness, so it was surprising that after a Pilates class on March 7, 2011, she suffered a heart attack and then went into a coma. She had a second cardiac arrest on July 8, at which time her family made the difficult decision to discontinue medical treatment in accordance with Val's wishes. She passed away five days later.
She is survived by her husband and children, as well as her father, sister and brother. She was preceded in death by her mother.

Valerie Jean Henrie-Aldrete passed away on Tuesday after complications of suffering a cardiac arrest back on March 7th. She touched many lives and left an imprint of love and laughter on all she has known. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing on Tuesday, July 19th, 2011 from 4-9 p.m. and a funeral service on Wednesday, July 20th, 2011 at 9 a.m. at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd in Hayward. Burial will follow. Afterwards there will be a gathering at the Masonic Lodge, 1074 B Street in Hayward, to share food and life experiences shared with Valerie.
