Film Producer, Screenwriter. Sir Anthony James Allan Havelock-Allan, 4th Baronet was a British film producer and screenwriter. He has credits for 62 films as producer. His work included many commercially successful films such as "Brief Encounter" and "Great Expectations" in 1946, "Oliver Twist" in 1948, "Romeo and Juliet" in 1968, and "Ryan's Daughter" in 1970. After being educated in private schools, he became a stock broker, jeweler, and a nightclub manager before entering the film industry. His first major production was the 1937 comedy "Lancashire Luck." In 1943 he joined Cineguild Productions and with the team of David Lean and Ronald Neame. He was co-nominated for the Hugo Award in 1946 for the film, "Blithe Spirit." He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Screenwriter in 1947 for "Brief Encounter" and in 1948 "Great Expectations." In 1961 he was nominated for "Best Picture" for "Romeo and Juliet." Besides the film industry, he ventured into pay-TV for a decade. He married actress Valerie Hobson and two sons were born to this union before their 1952 divorce. He married for the second time in 1979 to the daughter of a Spanish Ambassador to Chile and Brazil, Sara Ruiz de Villafranca. Upon his childless older brother's death, he gained the Havelock-Allan Baronetcy until his own death and at that point, his surviving and youngest son gained the title.
