Elizabeth May ("Lizzie") (Walton) Bangert was born in Illinois 07 May 1881. She was the daughter of George C. Walton (born 12 Mar 1855) and Mary Emma Lawrence (born 16 Oct 1855), both born in Illinois. George’s parents were both born in England; Emma’s father was born in England, her mother in Indiana.

George and Emma, who were married in 1879, had eight children, six of whom were living as of the 1900 Federal Census: J. Herbert, Lizzie May, Luella, Mary, George W., and McKinley. The family resided in Brushy Mound, Macoupin County, Illinois according to the 1880 and 1900 Federal Censuses.

George C. Walton died 28 Sep 1901, and is buried at Rural Methodist at Shaws Point Township Cemetery, Macoupin County, Illinois. Mary Emma “Lizzie” Walton died 04 Apr 1933, and is buried next to her husband. There is also a marker there for “Children of George and Emma Walton.”

Lizzie Walton was married before 1910 to Fred Christian ("Fritz") Bangert, born 18 Feb 1882 in Carlinville, Macoupin County, Illinois to Phillip Bangert and Minna Muller, both of whom were born in Germany.

Fritz and Lizzie had two sons, George Phillip Bangert (born 08 Apr 1908) and James Fred Bangert (born 05 Nov 1914). Both boys were born in Illinois. Counted in the household are Fred, 37, Elizabeth, 36, George P., 11, and 5 year-old James Fred Bangert, born 05 Nov 1914. All were born in Illinois. Fred’s parents were born in Germany, Elizabeth’s in Illinois.

The 1930 Federal Census lists “F. C.,” 48, and “May E,” 47, with 15 year-old son James in Nilwood, Macoupin County. The family’s home is owned and valued at $1,250. Fred, a farmer, and Elizabeth have been married 26 years. In 1940 “Fred C.” and “May E..” 59 and 58 respectively, live on a farm in Nilwood in a home they own which is valued at $800. They have lived there at least since 1935. Fred has a 6th grade education, and May completed two years of high school. When Fred registered for the WWII draft in 1942 he was living in Nilwood, Illinois.

Fred C. Bangert died in Macoupin County, Illinois 03 Aug 1968, and is buried at Girard Township Cemetery, Girard, Macoupin County.
