U.S. Congressman. Moving to Indiana, he engaged in agricultural pursuits and was a member of the Indiana State House of Representatives, (1838-40). In 1849, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-first Congress, serving until 1851. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his agricultural pursuits, plus engaged in mercantile pursuits in various states until his death in Colorado, at age 63.
