US Diplomat. Served as United States Minister to France after being appointed by President James Madison from 1811 until his death in 1812. He also fought in the Battle of Long Island while serving with the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War in 1776. A cenotaph exists for him in the Great Pasture Road Cemetery in Redding, Connecticut. His actual burial place is in a Churchyard in Zarnowiec, Poland.
