Betty Nielsen Tuttle, 87, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Nyssa Garden Assisted Living in Nyssa, Ore.

A viewing for friends and family will be held Monday, July 25 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lienkaemper Chapel, Nyssa, Ore. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor, Ray Fitzhugh, interim Pastor, of Owyhee Community Church, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26 at Lienkaemper Chapel in Nyssa, OR. Burial will follow at Owyhee Cemetery in Nyssa.

Betty was born at Giltner, Nebraska on Dec. 19, 1923, to Ewen and Jessie Mettlen Chard.

She married Elver Nielsen Aug. 26, 1941. Their two children, Gary and Bill, soon followed. They lived and worked in Seneca, Oregon for two years and then moved to their farm southwest of Nyssa in 1945. She devoted the next segment of her life to raising her children, working on the farm alongside of Elver and being active in her beloved, Owyhee Community Church. She was very close to her two sisters, Patty and Peggy, and her brothers, Jack and Ken.

Elver died March 15, 1984. She then married Ralph Tuttle, of Boise, ID. Through this union she added another wonderful son, Bruce Tuttle, of Boise. She and Ralph were able to go on many outings together before he passed away also.

While living in Boise she attended Cole Community Church and made wonderful friends through her Keenagers and New Beginnings groups. She was bold in telling her friends and family about her relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. She wanted them to know that Jesus died on the cross for there sins and was resurrected on the third day so we could all be assured of eternal life. She encouraged others to ask Jesus into their heart and grow in relationship with Him through studying the Bible. She knew she could not work her way to heaven but instead, she was first saved by Jesus and then the good works would follow.

She taught Sunday School and Bible School at Owyhee Community Church and was involved in Stonecroft Christian Ministries for many years in Ontario, OR.

Betty is survived by her sons: Gary (Peggy) Nielsen and Bill (Judi) Nielsen, both of Nyssa; four grandchildren: David (Janice) Nielsen, of Richland, WA, Lisa( Arlen) Strauch, of Nyssa, Matt (Lisaa) Nielsen, of Nyssa, and LeeAnne (Ken) Mathis, of Canby; great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Marcy and Jason Strauch, Madelynne and Colton Nielsen, all of Nyssa, Chase (Katie) Cleaver, of Eugene; stepgreat-grandchildren: Honnala Vaughn and Jordon Nielsen; her sister, Patty (Norm) Hukari, of Hood River; brother, Ken (Sharon) Chard, of Vancouver, WA; sister-in-law, Lucille Chard, of Payette, ID; and many nieces and nephews she was very close to.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ewen and Jessie Chard; her brothers, Beryl Dean and Jack Chard; and sister, Peggy Whitman; her first husband, Elver Nielsen; and second husband, Ralph Tuttle.
