CARPENTER, Sgt. David William of Company K and the 161st Infantry, age 21 years, formerly of 2526 Grant St., who was killed in action on New Georgia Island, Solomons, July 26, 1943. Sgt. Carpenter attended schools in Bellingham and was a graduate of the Assumption School. He was a member of the Church of the Assumption and the Holy Names Society. Graveside services will be conducted at Bay View Cemetery Saturday, July 17, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Father John McDonnell, assistant pastor of the Assumption Church, officiating, followed by the ritualistic services of the William A. Matthews Post No. 1585 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, under the direction of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home. David served with two of his brothers Bob and Tom who both survived the war.
