Henri Toutant Beauregard, son of Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard, and Marie Antoinette Laure Villere, born April 11, 1845 on upper Magnolia Plantation, Plaquemines parish, Louisiana.
He entered in July, 1860, the second session of the Louisiana State University, and was shortly thereafter sent to the Charleston, South Carolina Military Academy. Being too young at the outbreak of the Civil War to enter the army, he waited two years, and became attached to his father's staff at Corinth, Mississippi, until the close of the war.
For many years he was a rice planter in St. Bernard parish. In 1886 he entered the Real Estate business in San Diego, California. After his marriage in 1889, he engaged in some business, first in Chicago, Illinois, then in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1893, he purchased the old Macarthy House, formerly owned by Augustin Francis Macarthy, at Chalmette in St. Bernard parish and engaged in the livestock commission business and later on became manager of an oil company in Beaumont, Texas.
He was married in Coronado Beach, California, December 6, 1889 to Marie Antoinette (Nettie) Harney, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, daughter of John M. Harney and Mary Kimball and grand-daughter of General William Selby Harney, a veteran of the Indian and Mexican and Civil Wars. He was at the time of the Mexican War, a captain in the United States Army, in which he fought with dash and valor (Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard was then a lieutenant and looked upon Harney as his ideal of a hero), he was buried in the Arlington National cemetery.
The witnesses to the marriage ceremony were Charles Flower and James Reid.
Henry Toutant Beauregard died (without posterity) in New Orleans at 2 A.M. February 5, 1915, buried same day at 5:30 P.M., (in same tomb with his mother) in the old St. Bernard parish cemetery. Marie Antoinette (Nettie) Harney Beauregard at present (1937) is living in St. Louis, Missouri, and is Archivist and Curator of the Missouri Historical Society which includes the Lindbergh Museum."
