OBITUARY
[NOTE: Her husband, Neri, son Sidney (who became Governor) & possibly son Neri Jr., were the persons active in Arizona politics referred to in this article]

"Mrs. Neri Osborn, Sr., Arizona pioneer and mother of the first governor of the state born within its boundaries, died quietly at her apartment at 1603 North 9th Avenue in Phoenix last week, at the age of 88.
This pioneer woman came to Arizona and the Phoenix area in a covered wagon with her parents from Texas in 1870. She later went to school in California and then returned as one of the valley's first teachers.
She had lived a life of political activity -- first with her husband [Neri Osborn], whom she married June 12, 1882, as an active politician and a page in the first territorial legislature of the Arizona Territory -- and then for her son, the late Sidney P. Osborn [as AZ Governor], who like his father had lived through years of political activity. Folks say, "Like his father, he was a great man, a good leader, and a successful politician."
Mrs. Osborn is spoken of as the mother of two great men. Why? Shouldn't we say the husband and son of a wonderful woman, a successful wife and a great mother?
This mother leaves to long for her kindness, graciousness and guiding personality five of her eight children, 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many scores of friends.
She had been ill since the death of the late governor, May 25, 1948, and had been confined to St. Joseph's Hospital several times.
Like any mother she was proud of her family, grateful that her husband and son were successful in Arizona government, and glad that all her family belonged to her and were a family any mother could be proud of. She was the mother of two great political heads and was the famous mother of two successful politicians.

Her surviving children are Neri Osborn, Jr. and Gordon Osborn, both of Phoenix; Mrs. Alma Caldwell, New York city; Mrs,. R.V. Whittaker, New Orleans, and Mrs. Warner L. Pistor of Beverly Hills, California.
