SAN DIEGO--Detectives were searching a Logan Heights neighborhood Wednesday morning where they believe a young man was stabbed before he died at a restaurant in Mission Valley Tuesday night, San Diego police said.

The victim was suffering from a wound to the chest when he was dropped off in front of the Denny's restaurant on Camino del Rio South about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, homicide Lt. Ernie Herbert said.

Withnesses said he was driven to the restaurant in an older-model green Toyota Camry, and that three men got out, carried the victim to the front of the restaurant and asked employees to call for help before driving off, Herbert said.

Detectives located the car and its driver a short time later and interviewed him. His information led them to South Bancroft Street and Franklin Avenue, where they were looking Wednesday for evidence of the crime.

"That's where they believe the incident may have taken place," Herbert said.

He said the driver has been detained and is still being interviewed by police.

Investigators do not have a motive for the crime and do not know what precipitated the attack. The identity of the victim, said to be 18 to 20 years old, had not been released pending notification of his family.
