U.S. Congressman. Educated at Kingsley Academy, he taught school (1876-78), plus was in the nursery business and farming. He was a member of the Tennessee State House of Representatives, (1891-93) and served in the Tennessee State Senate, (1893-95). In 1905, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-ninth and Sixtieth Congresses, serving until 1909. An unsuccessful candidate for re-election, he moved to California and engaged in the oil and real estate business until his death at age 81.
