NORFOLK - Lillie Mae Phelps Hively died peacefully in the hospital surrounded by family and friends Nov. 24, 2006. "Moma Lillie," as she was lovingly called, was born in South Norfolk Aug. 13, 1919, to Lula Mae and William J. Phelps. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Hively and her siblings, Vivian Wall, Rosa Bush, Josephine, Earl, Norman and Willie Phelps, all formerly of Norfolk.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory four daughters, Cookie Little and her husband Billy, Earlene Cox and her husband Frank, Nancy Ragsdale and Joanne Cox; her four grandchildren, Darren and David Little, Michelle Smith and Alisa Cosenza; four great-grandchildren, Zachary and Cody Smith and Willow and Sam Cosenza; as well as nieces and nephews and a great family of friends.
Lillie was a faithful wife, devoted mother and grandmother and loyal friend to all who knew her. She gave of herself tirelessly as she shared her beliefs as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
A part of her will remain in each of us whose life she touched. Though she will be profoundly missed she will be always loved and never forgotten.
Our family would like to express deeply its gratitude to all medical professionals of Eastern Virginia Medical School and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital who cared for our mother so lovingly over the last few months.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 645 Mayflower Drive, Norfolk. Afterwards the family welcomes visitors at the family home in Norfolk.
