US Congressman. He immigrated with his parents to America, in 1831 and settled in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was a freight agent of the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago Railroad, (1855-56) and during the Civil War was employed upon government railways in and about Washington, D.C. After the war, he was editor of the Harrisburg Telegraph newspaper, (1873-78). In 1881, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-seventh and Forty-eighth Congresses, serving until 1885. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he relocated to California and lived in retirement until his death at age 89.
