Thomas was "Killed In Action" when his his B-24 crashed in the South Pacific area during the war. Thomas was a tail gunner. His remains were returned to the US and re-interred in the Holy Trinity Cemetery on March 5, 1948.
He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal, and the Purple Heart.
