Cecil Ivan "Cookie" Cook Jr., 78, of Waverly, Iowa, died on Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.
Cecil was born on August 22, 1932 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Cecil Ivan Anna (Kress) Cook Sr. He attended country school near Janesville and graduated from Janesville High School in 1951. Cecil was united in marriage to Marlys E. Auner on October 25, 1952 at the Janesville School Gym. Cecil served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953-1954. Upon returning from service Cecil farmed the family farm near Janesville. He later owned and operated Cooks Food Fare on college hill in Cedar Falls. He also worked for Members Mutual Oil Company and later with the Street Department for the City of Cedar Falls as a heavy equipment operator. He became the farm manager of the Winneshiek County Farm in 1981, retiring in August of 1995.
He enjoyed watching his kids and grandchildren compete in sports, gardening and watching the Cubs. He especially loved visiting and socializing with everyone around him.
Cecil is survived by his wife, Marlys of Waverly, Iowa; daughter , Deanna (Tom) Sullivan of Bloomington, Illinois; son, Brian G. (Sue) Cook of Decorah, Iowa; son, Bradley C. Cook of Springfield, Illinois; daughter, Gena (Robert) Bappe of Hartford, South Dakota; 8 grandchildren, Alexandria (Nathan) Oakland, Brooke (Beau) Fitts, Elizabeth (Tyler) Ford, Blake Bappe, Jeremiah Cook, Jennifer (Richard) Schlotfeldt, Daniel (Lindsay) Sullivan, and Laura (Tom) Feely and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
