Film Director. He was a prolific American film director along with being a silent film actor and a screenwriter. His career began as an actor in 1909 with American Mutoscope and Biograph Company. Over the years, he worked in a wide variety of genres, for every major film studio, and a host of Hollywood stars. He is credited with hundreds of films and television episodes starting in the silent film of "Diana of the Farm" in 1915 and ending with the 1976 film, "Fury of the Dragon." Besides being credited as director for 74 episodes of the television series "Lassie," he wrote six episodes. In 1914 he married Marguerite Fleischer and the couple remained married until his death. Their son William Beaudine, Jr. followed in his father's footsteps becoming a successful director. In February of 1960 he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Shortly before his death, he received the Film Critics Award of the New York Arts Institute for his 1926 film "The Canadian," which was considered as one of the best pre-sound films. Wendy Marshall's 424-page biography "William Beaudine" was published in 2004.
