U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the law department of the University of Michigan in 1876, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Jackson, Michigan. He was assistant prosecuting attorney of Jackson County, (1878-79), a member of the Michigan State House of Representatives in 1880 and served in the Michigan State Senate (1886, 88). In 1891, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-second and Fifty-third Congresses, serving until 1895. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he engaged in farming and resumed the practice of law until his death at age 72.
