Sylvia E. Kasten, age 92, a resident of Riverwood Estates, Manitowoc, died on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Riverwood Estates.

Sylvia was born on January 8, 1919 in the town of Liberty, daughter of the late Emil and Marie (Pleuss) Wehausen. On April 11, 1944 she married Raymond Kasten at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in the town of Liberty. He preceded her in death on October 23, 2008. She was employed at Pine River Dairy for years and assisted in making butter. She was a member of the Ladies Aid at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church since her marriage.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law: Ronald and Carol Kasten, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law: Susan and Dave Luebke, Two Rivers; five grandchildren: Jeff and Sherri Kasten, Randy and Ronda Kasten, Lori and Greg Schleis, all of Manitowoc; Scott and Julie Luebke, Maribel; Kevin and Michelle Luebke, Valders; 12 great grandchildren: Alex, Kayla, Bradley, Kyle Kasten, Hannah, Madeline, Aubry Schleis, Brooklyn, Peyton, Beau, Nathaniel, Madison Luebke; one sister: Delores Weyer, Houston, TX; one sister-in-law: Janice Wehausen, Tucson, AZ; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Ray and Elsie Kratz, Luxemburg, WI and Shirley Kasten, Ocala, FL. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Kasten; four brothers: infant brother Clifford, Edward, Reuben, Roy; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Lois Jean Wehausen, John Weyer, Beata (Walter) Gauger, Clara (Raymond) Ihlenfeld, Ruth (Ewald) Duescher, Herbert (Norma) Kasten, Fred (Melvina) Kasten, August Kasten, Paul Kasten, and Ruth Kasten.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, town of Liberty. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Gregory Pope with burial to follow at the church cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church or Manitowoc Lutheran High School.

The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home, Valders, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Gladys Umnus, a very special niece, for her many visits and the loving attention she gave to Sylvia. Also to Beth and the staff at Riverwood Estates, who provided loving care to Sylvia.
