Delaware Governor. He was a prosperous farmer and just before the American Revolution, was Sheriff of Kent County Delaware, (1772-78). He was elected to the Delaware Constitutional Convention of 1776 and to the first Delaware State House, (1776-77). He served in the Delaware House of Assembly, (1778-81) and the Delaware State Senate, (1782-83). When Delaware Governor then known as President of Delaware John Dickinson resigned, Cook was appointed the 6th President of Delaware, serving November 4, 1782 to February 1, 1783. When the next special election was held, he returned to his Delaware State House position and served until his death at age 59.
