Christon John "Christ" Christopherson, 91, of 23031 Cedar Rd., Kiel (Town of Eaton), died Saturday morning, Aug. 6, 2011, at his home. He was born Feb. 1, 1920, in the Town of Charlestown, son of the late Christen and Helen (Schultz) Christopherson. Christ was a 1938 graduate of Chilton High School.

On Nov. 26, 1941, Christ enlisted in the US Army. He served as a Light Machine Gunner with the 41st Sunset Div. Company I of the 186th Infantry. He served during WWII in the SW Pacific New Guinea Campaign were he was wounded on April 22, 1944 at Humboldt Bay, Dutch New Guinea. During his time in service he was awarded five Overseas Bars, the American Defense Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, a Purple Heart, the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with three Battle Stars, a Victory Medal, his Combat Infantry Badge and a Bronze Star. He sailed on the warship Metsonia and returned home on the Hospital ship, Liberty.

On Nov. 6, 1946, Christ married the former Margie Ibe at St. John Evangelical & Reformed Church in New Holstein. Upon returning from service, Christ was employed at Brillion Iron Works, AA Laun Furniture Co. and Arps Corp. He then worked for 38 years as the Orchard Supervisor for AT Hipke and Sons. Christ went on to the Neuser Orchard in New Holstein for three years until his retirement. Christ was a lifetime member of St. John UCC New Holstein. He was a long-time and dedicated member of the Grasshold Schmidlkofer Legion Post 125 of Chilton, lifetime member of the Military Order Purple Heart USA Post 162-Winnebago Chapter, lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Post 11- Fond du Lac, lifetime member of VFW Post 6707- Badger Tri-County of Kiel, and a lifetime member of the Great Lakes Sports Fishermen Club.

In his free time, he enjoyed cutting wood, hunting, fishing, gardening, spending time with his service seeing eye dog, Duke, and his other dogs, Susie and Quincy. He also enjoyed touring the farm in his Club Car.

Survivors include his wife, Margie; his son, Daniel (Sandra) Christopherson, rural Kiel; daughter-in-law, Joanne Christopherson, Appleton; six grandchildren, William (Kristie) Christopherson , Kaukauna; Jennifer Christopherson, Kiel; Jason Christopherson, Appleton; Cherie Christopherson , Baltimore Md.; Amy (Mike) Fuhrmann, New Holstein; and Chris Christopherson, Kiel; four great-grandchildren, Tanner and Quinn Christopherson, Ava and Isaac Fuhrmann. Christ is also survived by a brother, Oliver (Ruth) Christopherson, Valders; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Christopherson, Kiel. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Christopherson; his parents and a brother; Clayton "Sever" Christopherson.

Funeral services for Christ will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at St. John UCC, 2111 Church St., New Holstein, with the Rev. Kris Borns officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 2 p.m. until the time of services. Burial in the Eaton Cemetery on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2011, at 9 a.m. with full military honors.
