British Monarch. Queen consort of King Edward VII. Daughter of Christian IX of Denmark and Louise of Hesse-Kassel. Known as Alix, she married Albert Edward (Bertie), Prince of Wales on March 10, 1863. She held the title of Princess of Wales for 38 years, longer than any woman before or since. She was youthful, beautiful, energetic, a devoted mother, and fun-loving, which made her wildly popular. Their marriage was a good one for the most part, though Bertie continued keeping mistresses, cheif among them the actress Lillie Langtry. They had six children, all but one survived. They were crowned on August 9, 1902. Alexandra died at Sandringham House after a heart attack at the age of 80.
