Robert Burn was born the eldest son to Robert Burn & Mary (nee Paterson) Brun at Jessfield House between Newhaven and Leith in north Edinburgh.

OCCUPATION

Robert trained as a Monumental Stonemason.

1772 to 1775
Robert was employed by James Weir of Tollcross to repair and rebuild St. Cuthbert's Church in Edinburgh, Scotland.

1782
Robert became Burgess of Edinburgh

MARRIAGE AND FATHERHOOD

June 17th, 1785
Robert Burn married Janet Laing at Newton, Midlothian, Scotland. To this union they were blessed with at least twelve children.

1796
Robert became Dean of Guild Councilman

1805 - 1815
Robert operated a drawing academy at Picardy Place in Edinburgh, Scotland.
It became known as the Trustees Academy and relocated to the Royal Institution in 1826.

1814
Robert owned and operated Robert Burn and Company, as a Builder and Marble Cutter.
