23rd Delaware Governor. He was a member of the Delaware House of Representatives and during the War of 1812, he served as a Lieutenant Colonel the Delaware State Militia. After the war, he was again a member of the Delaware House of Representatives (1813-17, 30-31), an agent for Brandywine Creek millers and plus was in the mercantile business. In 1836, he was elected as a Whig the 23rd Governor of Governor, serving until 1841. While in office, the common schools were restructured and school tax legislation was revised. He finished his term and then lived in retirement until his death at age 71.
