US Congressman. Twice elected to represent Massachusetts' 3rd District in the US House of Representatives, he served as an American Party candidate from 1855 to 1857 and as a Republican from 1857 to 1859. He suffered a paralytic stroke during his second term and did not seek renomination in 1858. In the private sector Damrell owned a large printing establishment in Boston, and after leaving Congress he resumed this enterprise as much as his health would allow, until his death at 50.
