ELM GROVE, LA - The family of LJ Bass continues this day to celebrate the life of "Paw-Paw". LJ Bass was a retired Captain from the Bossier City Police Department and he honorably served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He passed away Thursday, March 31, 2011, following a long battle with cancer; however, he was able to serve as a beloved "Paw-Paw" to his grandchildren and the children of Bellaire Elementary School, where he volunteered tirelessly. His family and the staff and children of Bellaire will forever remember "Paw-Paw".

He was born on October 5, 1946 in Calcasieu, LA to his parents, Louis Jasper and Myrtie Goodman Bass, who preceded him in death. LJ was also preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Hebert and nephew, Carl Giles, Jr.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Angela Kellogg and husband, Clay of Elm Grove, LA, Jennifer Konnovitch and husband, Mike, and Kriste Bass all of Bossier City, LA; son, Jason Bass and wife, Melissa of Bossier City, LA; grandchildren who were the joy of his life, Justin Kellogg, Michael Konnovitch, Jacey Bass, Jonathan Konnovitch, Jayla Douglas and Nicole Kellogg; brother, Roy Bass and wife, Betty of Calcasieu, LA; sisters, Peggy Willis and husband, David of Calcasieu, LA, and Katy Pyle and husband, Gene of Winterset, IA; and many devoted nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 4:00 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2011, at Rose-Neath Bossier Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Dianne Brown. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. prior to the service time at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Laurie Bass for all the wonderful meals and memorable family outings. We would also like to thank Dr. Wayne Barksdale, Dr. Igbal Singh, and Dr. Robert Massingill and the staff of the Schumpert Cancer Treatment Center of Shreveport and the Ochsner's Hospital transplant staff in New Orleans for all the special care and dedication to his illnesses.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bellaire Elementary School-Special Projects, 1310 Bellaire Blvd, Bossier City, LA 71112.

His family will forever cherish the memories of "Paw-Paw" fishing on Lake Bistineau. LJ Bass…..Gone Fishing!
