U.S. Congressman. He attended Harvard College for two years, graduated from Yale College, in 1771, studied theology was licensed to preach, in 1775 and ordained to the ministry, in 1781. He was a pastor of the First Congregational Church of Middleboro, Massachusetts, when elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Ninth and Tenth Congresses, serving (1805-09). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was a member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives, (1812-13) and continued in the ministry, until his death at age 64.
