Confederate States Army Officer. After graduating from the University of Virginia in 1857, he taught at St. John's College in Little Rock, Arkansas. He helped form the First Arkansas Infantry in 1861 and became a Major in the 2nd Arkansas Battalion in 1862. During fighting at the Battle of Mechanicsville, he was struck by a shell fragment and killed.
