BEN CUMMINGS DIES OF HEART ATTACK TODAY
Ben Cummings, 660 Willard Street, a veteran of the First World War, died unexpectedly of a heart attack late this morning while conversing with two neighbors as he was standing in the driveway at his home.
Mr. Cummings suddenly collapsed and his friends immediately carried him within his home, but apparently death had been instantaneous.
Last October 8, Mr. Cummings had been stricken by a heart attack and during a period of convalescing had made apparent improvement. Following a medical examination his condition had been considered so improved that Mr. Cummings was to return to his work tomorrow as a switchman for the Peoria and Pekin Union railroad at Pekin, a job he had held the last two years.
Previously Mr. Cummings had spent four years in railroad work at the ordinance plant in Burlington, IA. Formerly he was engaged as a home decorator.
Born in Galesburg, March 8, 1892, Mr. Cummings was graduated from the local high school. He enlisted at Detroit, MI, June 1, 1917, and was sent to Yuma, AZ, where he obtained an award for expert marksmanship. In August, 1918, Mr. Cummings was transferred to Camp Travis and later saw service in other camps before his discharge February 12, 1919.
His marriage to Miss Lola Babbitt of this city took place November 7, 1923.
Mr. Cummings was a member of the First Methodist church, Elks, the Masonic fraternity and the American Legion.
Survivors are the wife and two sisters, Mrs. Bert Melin, Glendale, CA, and Mrs. Roy Willsie, city.
Services probably will be held Monday afternoon, but a definite time has not yet been decided upon.

At religious services Dr. TE Newland officiated with a quartet composed of Will Lawrence, Eschel Johnson, Arvid Erlandson and Dave Swedenberg, accompanied by Mrs. Ralph D Lucas, singing two selections.
Pallbearers were Paul Davis, Edward Watkins, Frank Hinchman, Lawrence Camp, Harry Edmundson and Robert Egstrand. Burial was in Memorial Park.
